When we did "Les Miserables School Edition" in November of 2008, I had a blast building the barricade to ride on the turntable in Act II.
EXPEDIENT SOLUTION:
On my way to the theatre each day I would watch for junk that people put out to the curb as trash. I needed things that looked old enough to fit the time period. I found bed rails, a wooden rocking chair, small tables and crates.
Click on the photos and they should get bigger.
Front side of barricade turntable, ABOVE. Notice the old wooden desk from our production of "Deathtrap" and the tall ladder from "Miracle Worker", and various borrowed barrels and wagon wheels.
Back side of barricade turntable, BELOW. Notice the Shaker rocking chair that I found at the curb, as well as the wooden crib rails. That thin white door was from our production of "Noises Off":
(By the way, much of the stuff was far too broken to save in our prop room, so I burned pieces in the Homecoming bonfire!)
